About Us
The idea for 3 Dogs and a Tent was to create a store where pet owners with a
love for adventure, travel and the outdoors could shop for themselves
and their pets. Stacy and Dale Smith, founders of 3 Dogs and a Tent
became involved in the companion animal community in 2004 when they
began their media company that covers pet-related news and entertainment
through a variety of mediums.
Surrounded by high-tech outdoor companies, 3 Dogs and a Tent will be different. If you have a sense of nostalgia and your love of being an
adventurer DOESN’T revolve around the latest plastic innovation in
clothing, cookware or shelter, then 3 Dogs and a Tent is the store for
you.
It’s not that we won’t carry the latest hi-tech products and gear from
some of the most advanced companies on the planet; it is just that our
love of the outdoors stems from a time gone by.
When adventurers wore
leather boots, plaid was in style, tents were made of canvas, and wool
was the fabric of choice for warmth. Your GPS was a map, a compass and
your dog. A time when exploring new territories and countries made the
news. The era when men and women wore hats and men wore ties even on
safari. Canoes were made from wood and canvas and there were rivers and
streams that remained unexplored. Going camping didn’t involve concrete
slabs and reservations. When the sun went down you heard crickets not
generators from RV’s.
What separates 3 Dogs and a Tent from other retailers? The answer is simple, 3 Dogs and a Tent carries adventure gear for you and your pet. We are always looking out to make available the finest gear possible to use when traveling with your pet. Our product lines should make traveling with pets easier on you so taking your pet along makes for a more enjoyable experience. Most gear and outdoor clothing on the market perform very well, but how is it when you throw a dog or two or more in the mix? Is that tent still easy to set up when Fido is begging for your attention? Is your camp box easy to carry when you have a dog leash in one hand? How’s the driving when your pooch is trying to sit in your lap? We will introduce you to gear that you know will perform when you buy it. We will test products to their limits before we ever put them in our store. The process is called “Stuff We’ve Tried”. 3 Dogs and a Tent believe that all products we carry must perform like the manufacturer says they will. We ask the manufacturers’ to send us a product sample to use in a real world situation with our pets. We use the product and then write a product review about it. If the review is favorable, it goes in our store.
3 Dogs and a Tent will also carry used gear. What is the saying, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”? We feel the same way. We will bring life back to discarded gear and pass it on to the next adventurer at a great savings. After all, if you have never camped, as well as camped with a pet, do you really want to spend three to five hundred dollars or more on a new tent to find out after you went that your wife, kids or dog hated it? We will carry gear from the past that has withstood the test of time. If you are looking for that canopy, stove, lantern, heater or jacket that your father used when you were a child, check us out, we might have one on the shelf.
